Mark’s charity fundraising

With a mother undergoing cancer treatment, Mark became aware of the total cost of treatments and medications. “The costs for cancer medicine are equal to the average price of a Dutch home. If we do nothing now, cancer care will become unaffordable.”

That is why, in the run-up to The World’s Toughest Row, Mark started his charity ‘Row4Cancer’ with which he raised money for research to make cancer medicines affordable, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. René Bernards of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Foundation.

During his Atlantic crossing, he asked people to support him by donating to his charity. He raised €44,321. Six months later, Mark took part in the Golden Globe Race, a non-stop solo tour. He renamed his charity ‘sailing4cancer’.
The fundraising campaigns raised another €53,260, which he officially presented by cheque to Prof. Dr. René Bernards. In 2020, Mark and Kai again raised €76,000 for cancer research at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek hospital. Mark is preparing for his new adventures and will continue to contribute to this good cause.
